Weapons Charges

A weapon is more than just a gun. Depending on how it is used, a weapon can be a shoe, a car or a fist. Even law-abiding citizens can get into trouble and find themselves charged with weapons violations.

I'm defense lawyer Keith Rutman. From my law offices in San Diego and Murrieta I have defended countless people facing weapons charges in Southern California courts. I believe in giving my clients the best possible service. This means providing a clear description of the charges against you and your defense options.

If you have been charged with any of the following crimes, contact my San Diego defense firm to schedule a free half hour consultation:

  • Possessing a firearm without a conceal and carry permit
  • Brandishing a firearm
  • Possessing assault weapons or other illegal firearms
  • Possessing a firearm after conviction of a felony or a misdemeanor domestic violence conviction
  • Unlawful sale of firearms
  • Possessing or using a gun in the commission of a crime such as armed robbery, a gang crime, or a drug crime

Defending a Wide Range of Weapons Charges Since 1989

If you are convicted of a felony weapons offense, future employers and landlords may use your conviction against you. If you are convicted of a weapons offense, you may spend years in prison and lose your right — and the right of people who live with you — to own or possess a firearm.

I have more than 20 years of experience defending people accused of many types of gun charges. I will investigate your gun charges and the officers' actions when they found your weapon and arrested you. If you used your weapon in self-defense or to protect someone else from life-threatening danger, I will fight to dismiss your charges.

If I cannot dismiss your weapons charges, I will seek to reduce them, including advocating for alternative sentencing such as probation.

If you are an NRA member, you will also receive a 15% discount on your fee for any case in which a weapons offense is charged or alleged as a sentencing enhancement.

Testimonials

  • "Keith Rutman isn't just a great lawyer—he is figuratively and literally a life saver, having saved my life twice. First in a figurative way. I was facing serous charges and was fearing the worst – a lengthy prison sentence. He applied his expert legal knowledge to secure a positive solution to my problem. It far exceeded my expectations and I received probation. He offered me essential advice on both legal and strategic matters. Mr. Rutman was always immediately available to assist me. I would expect this kind of outstanding service from any lawyer who stands at the top of his profession." Learn More...
  • "Dear Mr. Rutman, I can't begin to thank you for all you have done for Jarrett and Jordan - specifically Jordan; you have gone over and above what most attorneys would do, and treated Jordan so well accepting his "I don't know what your talking about mentality". Jordan is greatly relieved it is over but I don't think he understands fully what is expected of him for the next 12 months." - Judy, Jarrett and Jordan Learn More...
